But, I am really looking for spring! The winter has not been overly harsh. We have had a few significant snowfalls. We've also had some warmer days amidst the cold. All in all a typical winter. I am not complaining. I am just finished. My body and soul are crying out for the warmer and brighter days ahead.
When I spy those early signs of spring, I am thrilled. Bright green shoots of the coming daffodils? Beautiful! This was around our yard this morning after yesterdays snow and sleet. Things are already melting and I was out without a coat -- spring really is on the way!
The trilling sounds of the migrating sandhill cranes overhead? Delightful! I've only heard and then seen the groups thus far this year. A few years ago, a field near us was a major rest stop. The noisy flocks were around for more than a week. We have seen smaller groups before for a day or two, but nothing like this.
I had initially thought these were blue herons. Those are quite common around here. After some reading, I learned that blue herons are much more solitary.
They also fly with their necks curved while the cranes fly with their necks stretched out straight. Whatever their name may be, they were a beautiful sight.
Mid-February, time for the cranes again. These are one of my favorite early signs of spring.
What are you seeing in your neck of the woods to let you know spring is just around the corner?
Mmmm Oreos -- one of the few cookies I don't make at home. ;)

25 days really? Wow I need to get some spring books from the library then. Stopping by via Every Bed of Roses blog award
